Ancient China Developed Advanced Tech (Pt. 2)

Recent researchers have found out that remarkably, China had pioneered the development of some of the most advaced technology in the world in the most concentrated and upward directed technological development in history until the 17th century… But it accomplished this over a thousand years ago. Originally proposed as a single volume of 600 to 800 pages, the project now encompasses seventeen books published under the direct supervision of Joseph Needham, from the first volume which appeared in 1954, through to volume 6.3 which was in press at the time of his death in 1995. The published volumes reflect Needham’s vision of the field of the history of science and its social background in China, and his aim to make Chinese achievements in science and technology better understood. The planning and preparation of further volumes is ongoing. Responsibility for the commissioning and approval of work for publication in the series is now taken by the Publications Board of the Needham Research Institute, under the chairmanship of Dr C. Is Cyberwar The Next Cold War?

Who’s Not Evil Now? Facebook’s Social Connections vs Google’s Hyperlinks

The gauntlet was officially laid down when Mark Zuckerberg announced at his F8 Developers Conference that “going forward social connections are going to be equally as important as hyperlinks were for the Web previously.” While Google’s brain-trust has been ingenious in perfecting their algorithms over the years, where Facebook may have a leg up in the weeks and months ahead is ” stickiness .” To fracture an old axiom, “you can lead a horse to link, but you can’t get always get him to click-thru.” Zuckerberg, on the other hand, thinks his 400 million horses will be prompted by his Open Graph to do both. Google’s informal corporate motto ” Don’t be evil ” was said to recognize that large corporations often maximize short-term profits with actions that destroy long-term brand image and competitive position. Finally a Law to Tackle Mounting e-waste in India

India is finally set to have a law which can tackle head on the mounting problem of electronic waste dumped in the country. “The provisions of the new law could be such as could effectively monitor the trade in electronic waste and reduce illegal imports,” Ravi Agarwal, director of Toxics Link, said in an interview.
